This is every bad automotive trend in one. It’s a crossover, with a mean face, with so many LEDs, and a huge grill, most of which doesn’t even let air through, but for some reason they put that mail slot opening above the grille when they could have just made more of the grille open, and its got those Cherokee squinty fake headlights, and worst of all the not fooling anybody blacked out c-pillar to make a “floating roof”. And I don’t even know what the back looks like yet...

It’s the way of making an appliance look edgy and exciting, modern design for those not really into design.

Don’t forget black body cladding making the wheel arch gap look even bigger than it is! And the parts of the wheels that are black to make the spokes look smaller or maybe just “sporty.” And the roof rails that don’t have space under them so you can’t just, you know, tie things down to them or bolt on a roof rack without highly specialized accessories.

It’s a color. Gotta give ‘em some credit. Even if it is a fairly ugly color...

Citroen Cactus or the Hyundai Kona pictured?
If Citroen, any link?

To be fair, the Opel Adam might be able to claim the title of pioneer, and on that one, somehow, it doesn’t offend me.
The rest of those though, blech. Such a lazy way to try to add style.

I quite like most of them but the Crosslands at the top, no thank you.
The likes of the Corsa, Astra and Insignia (formerly Vectra, formerly Cavalier) have been staple cars for years here and so have evolved rather than just released an offensive mass.

That’s just as bad to me - and a black line and some pointless chrome to an existing car, and fool people into think it is edgy and new. It probably works, too.
I notice few non-mainstream or true premium cars are embracing the design.

Everything from the back of the front wheel arch is okay with me.
But that front end... Kill it with fire! Kill it! It’s like all of the demons of ugly automotive design have combined themselves in one place.

Tarting up an old design - do those sell enough outside of Blighty to count? :)
Doesn’t look too hot either, reminds me of a reverse of the 2003 Saturn Ion that had customizable A-pillar covers.

The XJ was an all new design back in 2009.
I’ve seen a few of them about but not a hell of a lot.
In the southern counties are where these really sell.
The police have a few for VIP transport.

That’s an old timer. S-class and 7er have received facelifts and new platforms in the meantime. Budgets I suppose.
Seldom seen in NA or on the continent. I once had one offered to me as a rental car in Germany, but I sought something else, as I don’t like the console ergonomics.
